Eagles Predictions Week 1: Hashtag Multimedia weighs in

With the Philadelphia Eagles’ first season under new coach Chip Kelly kicking off tonight against Washington and Robert Griffin III, we at Hashtag HQ thought it would be fun to try and predict the outcome. Look for these posts every week throughout the season. Both president Craig Kaplan and director of public relations Bryne Yancey will be weighing in, with the occasional guest prognosticator. Off we go!

CK: RG3 was adamant during training camp and the preseason that he was healthy, fully recovered from his ACL and LCL injuries in his right knee. Coach Mike Shanahan and Dr. James Andrews weren’t as certain, at least not until recently when the quarterback was cleared to play. Given that RG3 didn’t play in the preseason and hasn’t seen any real game action since injuring his knee in the playoffs last season against the Seattle Seahawks—and given that the Eagles seem primed to surprise on offense—I think the Birds get the upset at FedEx Field. I just don’t think RG3 is 100%. Eagles 27, Washington 24.

BY: Robert Griffin III is my fantasy quarterback, and as such I’ll hear none of this “not 100%” talk. I want to believe, despite the fact that I have little more to go on than his word. I think he’ll have a good game. In fact, this should be a high-scoring game on both sides: The Eagles’ defense looked suspect in the preseason; Washington was 28th in run defense in 2012—which could mean monster numbers for LeSean McCoy—and they’re starting a pair of rookies in the secondary, safety Bacarri Rambo and cornerback David Amerson, that could hinder their pass coverage. Look for Michael Vick to target Desean Jackson early and often to test them. Eagles 35, Washington 30.
