Song of the Day: Bob Marley and the Wailers, “Survival”

I’m changing up my January plan of listing the top songs from 2012 for one day to commemorate the concert I saw last night at the World Cafe. The Wailers, including legendary bassist Aston ‘Family Man” Barrett who produced many of Bob Marley’s greatest songs and played bass for his last 6 albums, played their landmark album Survival straight through. As an added treat they had Roger Steffens, one of the foremost reggae historians in the world, tell the story behind every song. Steffens, who toured with Bob Marley for his final few tours, showed never before seen pictures and video of Bob from that tour to support this classic LP. It was a moving experience and I learned some very interesting facts about the reasons behind the creation of this masterpiece.
