Song of the Day: The Jealous Sound, “Beautiful Morning”
Borne from the demise of the influential Knapsack, the Jealous Sound have been around off and on for over a decade, melding silky smooth vocals, relatable lyrics and huge, catchy choruses amidst a sound rooted in melodic rock and modern emo—probably because TJS were progenitors of the style way back in the early 2000s.
After a lengthy hiatus, the band returned to release A Gentle Reminder in 2012, their first full-length since 2003’s Kill Them With Kindness. The band predictably and wonderfully haven’t lost a step despite the long layover, nor have they altered their sound for a new audience. My favorite thing about this record—and this is not a back-handed compliment in any way—is that it sounds like it could’ve come out ten years ago.
A Gentle Reminder will be reissued as a deluxe edition on Feb. 19 via the band’s new label, Rise Records. The release will include the group’s rare (and equally awesome) 2008 EP Got Friends. “Beautiful Morning” is the opening track from the record. TJS are currently touring the US with Doylestown, Pa.’s Balance and Composure, a tour which will hit Union Transfer here in Philly on Feb. 21.
