Song of the Day: Weezer, “The Christmas Song”

Tomorrow is Christmas, and while we’d be lying if we said we weren’t sick of holiday music by now—with no disrespect intended toward Sir Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen or anyone else for that matter—there are a few, perhaps lesser-known jams that help make the season just a little warmer.

One of them is “The Christmas Song” from Weezer, which surfaced in 2001 around the time of their second self-titled full-length (and third album overall), colloquially known as “The Green Album.” The lyrics, while caked in Rivers Cuomo’s trademark melancholy, remind the listener in a roundabout way that it’s important to be close to your family and loved ones this time of year.

We’re taking off tomorrow, but will return Wednesday with another song. Merry Christmas.
